If this is your honest attitude about goal setting, you are not alone. I’ve been there. More than once. It’s not your fault. (More on that later).
But now, we’ve got to change this attitude. And the good news is, we can. I did, and I’ll help you do it.
I dove into goal setting head first and full of excitement when I began my personal development journey. I still get a little pit in my stomach when I remember stumbling upon a list of goals in an old notebook, over a year after I made them.
It was a list of “stuff” I wanted in my life. Some of it no longer mattered to me. And sadly, none of that supposedly well-thought-out list of things I wanted, had actually come to be.
What was suppose to be a life-changing exercise for the better, worked only to drive me farther from what I thought I wanted, and deeper into depression.
Why bother making lists of wishes that never come true?
Who needs lists full of reminders of what you don’t have?
Never one to be denied, I pressed on. Buying every program and plan I could get my hands on that taught the real way to do goal setting.
Result? More pages of wishes unfulfilled.
I loved the concept of making goals and crossing them off the list in moments of profound satisfaction. But, it just wasn’t happening. So, I quit.
I kept my goals rolling around in my head. I kept telling myself I was more resolved than ever to get what I wanted. (Whatever that meant). But writing down my goals took time that I needed to build my business, and it was depressing. So, I quit.
Are you somewhere close to where I was? Is your goals list more than 90 days old? Is it lost somewhere in a notebook filled with good intentions? Or maybe that goals list you know you should make is still stuck on your “to do” list?
Take 2 minutes and 17 seconds to watch this video. It reveals to you two things that are proven to make a huge difference in whether you reach your goals.
Now you know what you need to do, and your first step is to commit to doing it.
But, you also need to know how to do it. Otherwise, you’ll just get depressed and quit.
I told you in the beginning that your sorry attitude about goal setting isn’t your fault. Why not? Because you’ve been taught the wrong way to go about it.
Today, change begins. I have a 3 article series on goal setting done right that will get you started. You can read it here:
There’s more to come, as I’m passionate about this topic. More than anything, a lack of focused, goal-driven action is why entrepreneurs aren’t seeing the life and business of their dreams coming into reality. But you can change that.
If you have questions, ideas, and/or challenges, let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to address them here, as we continue to get your goal setting done right.
