I’ve always liked this place. But this visit is the first time I’ve been aware of the completely peaceful energy that the place thrives on. Which surprises me a little, because I’m a big fan of energy.
I know what some of you are thinking. Is this going to be one of those “new age-y” articles about positive energy? I know you can’t see energy. And I know you want concrete strategies about how to build a profitable online business. Not some mumbo jumbo about sitting on a mountain in quiet meditation until it starts raining money on you.
I also know that many of the biggest reasons people fail at building a profitable online business have nothing to do with the “nuts and bolts” of business building. And everything to do with their mindset, and the mindset of the people around them.
So yes, we are going to talk about positive energy today. At the same time, I’m going to give you 3 solid strategies for building a profitable online business.
You likely recognize that there’s a lot of negative energy around your online business efforts. Few, if any, of the people in your life think you can do it. Why don’t you just get a “real job?”
And if you’ve turned to online groups for support, there’s a lot of negative energy there too. Really.
Not that the people aren’t well-meaning and supportive. They are. But, instead of doing the work that needs to be done, many of them are hanging out online buying junk and complaining about how it doesn’t work.
I used to think that the negativity was just part of it. And that I could succeed in spite of it. Maybe you can. But it’s at least a thousand times harder. So why try it?
Two things I’ve learned about having a profitable online business are (1) you can’t do it alone, and (2) you need to have the momentum going in your favor.
Have you ever noticed how the team that comes from behind to tie the game at the buzzer often wins in overtime? Because they’ve got the momentum. The ball is rolling in their direction. You need to be on the team with the momentum.
Let’s look at 3 places where you can find winning teams. And yes, you should be in all 3 places.
1. Online Forums/Groups
Didn’t I just say online groups are full of negative energy? They are. Which makes it crucial that you find the right one. One where the people are serious about building a real business.
Honestly, these are usually paid groups. People who are willing to pay to learn and share with other online business owners are more serious about their business and add more value.
If you get into a free group, make sure (1) that there is no whining and complaining about what doesn’t work, and (2) people are sharing what’s proven to work for them, and not just theory that’s still leaving them broke.
Here are two great free groups for you — “You Can Do” Social Media Marketing group, and Marketing Strategies group. Both are Facebook groups and both have great people in them. Just ask to join both groups and you’re in!
2. Offline Groups
Nothing can replace in-person relationships. Period.
The two best sources for finding a good offline group are Meetup.com and BNI.com. Meetup has groups about everything, so you’ll have to search a little there. With BNI, you’ll just have to find your local chapter to hook up with.
Yes, positive energy exists in a great online group. But if you really want to get inspired and excited, meeting in person with other online business owners is essential.
It’s also a great way to find joint venture partners. And joint ventures are one of the quickest and most effective ways to build your online business.
3. Personal Development Programs
I always feel like I’m banging my head against the wall when I talk about personal development. So many people blow this off as something they “get,” when in reality, most people don’t have a clue .
Jim Rohn said it best when he advised that you’ve got to work harder on yourself than you do on your business.
I could go on for days about this. But I won’t. Just trust me.
You have to be involved in a personal development program if you want to be hugely successful in your business and your life. The game-changer for me was Jim Rohn’s One Year Success Plan
If you work on yourself – your goals, your habits, your attitude – you will find that you can’t help but be full of positive energy. And truly, like attracts like.
You will find your world beginning to fill up with other positive energy people. And your desire to spend time around anyone with negative energy will quickly begin to fade. No matter how close you thought you were to those people.
But, what does positive energy have to do with profits?
A lot! You’ll be amazed that as great things begin to happen to those in your “positive energy groups,” great things will begin to happen for you too.
Your products will start selling, clients will start contacting you, things will all start coming together for you.
Even if you don’t believe me, try it. What do you have to lose? If nothing else, you’ll be happier. Which isn’t a bad result, even if it was the only result (and it won’t be!).
