Google+: How to Easily and Effectively Make Quality Connections

Today’s super simple, yet super effective tip for your online business is about making quality connections on Google+. Last week, we talked about the importance of having lots of friends in your Google+ circles.  With Google’s Social Search feature, your chances of showing up in the search results skyrocket if you are in the circles of the person doing the search. So, it could be of great SEO benefit to be in lots of people’s circles.  IF those people are searching for the things that you are writing and posting about. If your connections are searching for “best low-fat diets,” and you are posting about “how to hand-dye yarn,” you obviously won’t be showing up in their search results.  No matter how many circles they have you in. Instead of going on a willy-nilly circling spree, it is best then to target who you circle.  This strategy also makes sense because people are more likely to circle you back if they see you have some common ground. The best tool for helping you find targeted Google+ connections for your online business is FindPeopleonPlus.  I will make a detailed video for you tomorrow about how to use this site. 3 Ways to Use FindPeopleonPlus You can get started on your own by doing 3 simple things. 1.  Add Yourself to the Directory In the upper left hand corner of the home page you will see where it says “Add/Update me to directory,” like this: Click there to connect your Google+ account to FindPeopleonPlus.  You will be allowed to add 3 tags (basically keywords) so that when others in your market are...

3 Ways to Brand Your Online Business for Maximum Profits

When I was in graduate school, all of the big firms used to come to the school to interview the top 25-33% of the class.  During the two weeks of interviewing, everyone walked around in their dark suits.  The men sported red “power ties” to go along with their uniform. It was literally hard to tell each other apart.  We looked like a boarding school with a strict dress code. And you wouldn’t dare show up in something different in an effort to be unique.  The firms wanted the students who came out of the cookie cutters looking the best. Oh my how things have changed.  When I graduated, my school boasted an 90+% rate of employment for graduates.  Now the employment rate is at a 15 year all time low, hovering around 66%. Many – if not most – professions are facing similar struggles with meeting the demand for jobs. Online business owners face a similar fate.  It used to be fairly easy to throw up a website, drive some traffic to it, and sell an affiliate product to thousands of hungry buyers. Now the profitable online business markets are becoming very crowded.  The money is no longer there for the taking. So, whether you’re looking for a job, or building an online business, the rules for success have changed. It’s time to throw the dark suit and red tie away.  Or at least, to add to it with a pair of lavender snake skin boots and a matching streak of dye in your hair.  It’s time to brand yourself.  To be unique.  To make people recognize and remember...

How to Use Google+ With Social Search to Rock Your SEO Efforts

Today’s super simple, yet super effective tip for your online business is  — make more connections on Google+. Making friends for the sake of making friends is usually good for the ego, but otherwise a waste of time on social media. Google’s new “social search”changes the rules when it comes to circling people on Google+. With social search, when you are logged into Google, and you type a search into the Google search bar, the search results favor those in your circles. This is best explained by looking at an example.  If I do a search for “social media strategies” while logged into Google, here are my results: The “100 personal results” out of nearly 70 million means that the people in my Google+ circles have shared 100 pieces of content relevant to my search. Now, let’s look at where and how that content is showing up in the actual search results. When you see the little blue person next to the search result that I’ve highlighted with a green box and arrow, that means it’s a “personal” result.  Or in other words, it’s something that was shared by someone in your circles. In this example, the number 2, 5 and 6 results I received were personal results.  I’m showing you the 5 and 6 results in the screenshot above.  In the number 5 result, you’ll see that it says “Pete Cashmore shared this.”  As evidenced by the result, Pete Cashmore is in my circles.  If I click on the link, it will take me straight to Mashable, where the content originated. In the number 6 result, the article...

3 Positive Energy Boosters for Your Online Business Profits

I’m enjoying a fun Spring Break week with my kids.  We drove to a nice little resort just a couple of hours from our home, and are spending a few days surrounded by nature. I’ve always liked this place.  But this visit is the first time I’ve been aware of the completely peaceful energy that the place thrives on.  Which surprises me a little, because I’m a big fan of energy. I know what some of you are thinking.  Is this going to be one of those “new age-y” articles about positive energy?  I know you can’t see energy.  And I know you want concrete strategies about how to build a profitable online business.  Not some mumbo jumbo about sitting on a mountain in quiet meditation until it starts raining money on you. I also know that many of the biggest reasons people fail at building a profitable online business have nothing to do with the “nuts and bolts” of business building.  And everything to do with their mindset, and the mindset of the people around them. So yes, we are going to talk about positive energy today.  At the same time, I’m going to give you 3 solid strategies for building a profitable online business. You likely recognize that there’s a lot of negative energy around your online business efforts.  Few, if any, of the people in your life think you can do it.  Why don’t you just get a “real job?” And if you’ve turned to online groups for support, there’s a lot of negative energy there too.  Really. Not that the people aren’t well-meaning and supportive. ...

How to Take Your Online Business One Step Above the Rest

Welcome to Simple Saturday.  I hope you’ve designed the perfect weekend for yourself. My super simple, yet super effective tip for today has to do with how to separate your online business from the 95% of those who are struggling. Have you noticed that everyone seems to be starting an online business these days?  Actually, that’s not true, but if you hang out in the world of entrepreneurs, it sure does seem like just about every online market is a noisy one. How then, will you ever get people to notice you over the crowd? Do you need the best graphics?  A million dollar sales letter?  The lastest product on ninja website traffic secrets? The answer is not what you might think. If you’ve spent any time online, I’m sure you’ve bought eBooks and thought, “hmm, I could have done better than that writing in my sleep!” Or seen sales letters that look something like this: “Get you’re hands on this game changing product befor its to late.  Your going to love it!” And yes, despite their lack of knowledge, writing abilities, or grammar and spell-checking skills, these people are selling stuff.  And running a successful online business. It’s not because they’re smarter than you (obviously).  It’s not because they’ve bought the newest “how to” product and discovered the secret to online business success. It’s because they have Discipline. Yes, a successful online business requires a certain level of competence.  But the number one distinguishing factor between the rich entrepreneur and the poor is discipline. Because what’s easy to do is even easier not to do. Discipline breeds consistency.  And consistency...
