Success Lessons From the Ocean

I’m feeling extra grateful today that I am my own boss.  And that I have a portable office. Today, the white sandy beach is more than meeting my office needs.  And the occasional “watch this, mom!” is less distracting than usual under the clear blue sky. But that’s not really what this is about.  I just can’t ever resist a plug for the work from home (or the beach!) lifestyle. Earlier today I was sitting in the shallow ocean with my 3 and 4-year old boys.  Those tiny waves are like a tsunami when you’re under 3 feet tall. As I was trying to hold on to both of them, and keep their little mouths from filling with some pretty raunchy looking saltwater, I discovered the key to successfully relaxing on the beach. It’s all in the hands of the waves that push forward. The three of us were doing just fine as long as the waves kept coming in.  One after another.  Consistently.  Water pushing forward. The problem came when the waves took too long of a break.  That’s when the undercurrent tried to pull us out of our little space.  Knocking the boys under the water and upsetting our sand castle building and water play. As I struggled to maintain, it occurred to me that this was much like the struggle to build and maintain a successful online business. Like the waves, you must consistently push forward.  In business, this means taking daily action steps that benefit your business.
